ZenaTech is seeking a Senior Pilot Surveyor/Survey Party Chief to lead drone-based land surveying operations on a wide range of residential, commercial, and municipal projects. You will be responsible for directing a field crew in performing boundary, topographic, construction layout, ALTA/NSPS, and FEMA elevation surveys. Your role includes coordinating with office staff, ensuring accurate data collection. This role is hands-on and physically demanding, requiring work outdoors in all weather conditions, as well as heavy lifting and manual survey tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a two- or three-person field crew in conducting surveys.
- Interpret job scopes, plans, and legal documents to execute surveys accurately.
- Support drone crews during UAS missions (launch/recovery, battery changes, safety checks).
- Communicate effectively with survey managers, clients, and contractors.
- Operate and troubleshoot survey instruments (total stations, GPS, data collectors).
- Ensure fieldwork is completed efficiently, safely, and accurately.
- Perform field labor tasks such as digging to uncover and set survey monuments; marking/staking points in soil, gravel, or uneven terrain; and carrying and lifting survey/UAS equipment (up to 75 lbs).
- Collect and organize field data for mapping, boundary surveys, and construction projects.
- Document field notes, sketches, job logs, and barcode scans for asset tracking.
- Ensure proper care, transport, and maintenance of survey and UAS equipment.
- Ensure compliance with Arizona surveying standards and best practices.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in land surveying, with at least 2 years as a crew chief.
- Strong working knowledge of Maricopa County regulations and survey conditions.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and experience with drone technology.
- Proficient in using total stations, GPS, and data collectors (Carlson/Trimble preferred).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
