American Robotics is seeking a Compliance Specialist with 3+ years experience to manage regulatory, import and export, and defense compliance requirements for unmanned aircraft systems. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with U.S. export control laws, DoD requirements, and federal procurement restrictions applicable to drone systems and components.
The ideal candidate has direct experience supporting UAS programs for the Department of Defense and understands how compliance integrates into engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain operations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage import and export compliance activities for UAS hardware, software, and technical data.
- Ensure compliance with ITAR, EAR, DDTC registration and reporting requirements.
- Classify products, components, and technical data under ITAR and EAR.
- Support licensing, exemptions, and recordkeeping for exports and transfers.
- Have been involved with the process of CMMC and NIST compliance and auditing bodies.
- Support Blue UAS and Green UAS compliance efforts, including supplier validation and documentation.
- Coordinate compliance requirements with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and legal teams.
- Conduct vendor and customer screenings against restricted party lists.
- Maintain compliance documentation, procedures, and audit readiness
- Support internal and external audits, including DoD and government reviews.
- Train internal teams on export control and compliance requirements.
- Monitor regulatory changes affecting UAS and defense programs.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience managing export control and defense compliance for UAS or aerospace programs.
- Strong working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, DDTC, and U.S. export control regulations.
- Experience with DoD programs and defense procurement requirements.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity certifications. Prefer to have been involved in getting or maintaining certs.
- Understanding of Blue UAS frameworks.
- Experience supporting import compliance and customs processes.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills. Must be detail oriented.
- Ability to work onsite in Sparks, MD.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in the UAS industry or defense aerospace sector.
- Experience working directly with DoD customers or primes.
- Familiarity with supply chain compliance and vendor qualification.
- Experience supporting manufacturing and production environments.
- Experience preparing for or supporting government audits.
