About Drone Amplified
At Drone Amplified, we tackle the "Dull, Dirty, and Dangerous." We specialize in Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) designed to take humans out of harm's way. Our flagship technology, IGNIS, is a global leader in remote aerial ignition, allowing firefighters to manage prescribed burns and wildfire backburns from a safe distance. From the US Forest Service to international agencies, our tech is on the front lines of wildland fire management. We’re also proud to add MONTIS to our product line. The MONTIS drops explosive charges with precision-timed detonators to trigger avalanches safely and effectively. We aren't just building drones; we’re building a safer future for those who protect our land.
The Role: Mechanical Engineer
We are looking for a highly motivated mechanical engineer who lives at the intersection of "meticulous" and "innovative." You’ll be a key part of a small, high-output team where your work directly impacts the reliability of life-saving equipment.
Who You Are
- A First-Principles Thinker: You don't just follow industry standards; you break problems down to their fundamentals. You ask "Why?" until you reach the bedrock of the engineering challenge.
- An Inventor at Heart: You have a "builder" soul. Whether it’s a side project in your garage or a complex professional assembly, you are happiest when you are creating something that didn’t exist yesterday.
- Solid Understanding of Materials: You have an intuitive and technical grasp of mechanical design. You know exactly why to choose 6061 aluminum, SLS or FDM prints, or when a composite is worth the complexity.
- A Precision Tactician: You balance the "move fast" mindset of a startup with the diligence required for aviation. You understand that in flight-critical hardware, there is no room for mechanical failure.
- A Calculated Risk-Taker: You aren't afraid to prototype a "wild" idea, test it to failure, and iterate. You see a broken prototype as a successful data point.
Responsibilities:
- Collect requirements, design, test, and take the product through manufacturing processes
- Work individually and collaboratively with a cross-disciplinary team across multiple locations.
- Improve upon existing systems to ensure they meet customer requirements.
- Maintain CAD models and designs to be concurrent with manufacturing process updates.
- Create and maintain PN’s, BOMs, Work Instructions, and product lifecycle management.
- Work with manufacturers to provide drawings, instruction manuals, and inventory requirements.
- Assists with supply chain duties to maintain quality assurance.
- Candidates should plan to work at our office in Pennsauken, NJ, regularly. This is a hands-on job. Some amount of regular or periodic remote work is possible.
Required Experiences and Knowledge:
- B.S., M.S., or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or in a related field.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling, preferably in Solid Works, with a strong Design for Manufacturing (DFM) expertise across additive & subtractive manufacturing.
- Proficiency with creating assembly drawings.
- Ability to manage projects and timelines.
- 5+ years of experience designing and manufacturing.
- Strong communication skills to interface with other team members and clients.
- Willingness to learn and assist with a little bit of everything as is needed for our startup.
- Comfortable with fast-turn projects.
