Role Summary
We are seeking a UAS Systems Engineer responsible for building, configuring, tuning, and validating drone platforms. This role focuses on airframe integration, propulsion, avionics, control tuning, and system configuration, working closely with test, software, and mechanical teams.
This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on drone building and flight tuning, not just desk-based design.
Key Responsibilities
Drone Build & Integration
- Assemble and integrate multirotor UAS platforms
- Define hardware configurations (motors, ESCs, propellers, power systems)
- Integrate flight controllers, radios, GNSS, payloads, and sensors
- Support tether integration and airborne power systems
Configuration & Control Tuning
- Configure and tune flight control systems (PID tuning, filters, failsafes)
- Optimize performance for stability, endurance, and payload capacity
- Maintain configuration baselines for different platforms and variants
System Engineering
- Define system architectures and interfaces
- Support requirements decomposition and verification
- Assist with system-level trade studies and design improvements
Testing & Validation Support
- Support flight testing activities with the test team
- Analyze flight logs and telemetry data
- Investigate performance issues and contribute to root-cause analysis
Documentation & Configuration Control
- Create and maintain build documentation, wiring diagrams, and configuration records
- Ensure repeatability across production and test builds
- Support continuous improvement of build and integration processes
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field
- Hands-on experience building and tuning multirotor UAS
- Strong understanding of flight dynamics and control concepts
- Experience with PX4, ArduPilot, or similar autopilot systems
- Ability to analyze logs and telemetry data
- Comfortable working in lab and flight-test environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tethered drone systems
- Experience with high-power electrical systems
- Familiarity with vibration analysis and filtering
- Experience supporting defense or government programs
- FAA Part 107 (or ability to obtain)
- Scripting or data analysis (Python, MATLAB)
What We Offer
- Direct ownership of drone platform configurations
- Influence over vehicle performance and reliability
- Exposure to advanced tethered UAS technology
- Close collaboration with test, software, and mechanical teams
