Job Summary Nexus Utility Services is looking for a FAA Part 107 certified UAS Remote Pilot to join our team as a Utility Inspector Foreman. In this role, you will deploy unmanned aircraft systems to inspect electric and telecommunications utility infrastructure, capturing critical data that supports maintenance and operations across the grid. Depending on the project, you may operate independently as a solo pilot or lead a small field crew — we need someone who is effective in both settings. This is a seasonal full-time position running May 1 through December 15, paying $26–$32 per hour based on experience. Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute UAS flight operations for utility pole and infrastructure inspections
- Serve as Pilot in Command (PIC) for all UAS operations, maintaining full accountability for safe flight conduct
- Lead and supervise a field crew when assigned; operate independently as a solo pilot/inspector on single-person deployments
- Conduct pre-flight planning including airspace authorization, site assessment, hazard identification, and weather evaluation
- Ensure all UAS operations comply with FAA regulations, Part 107 requirements, and company safety protocols
- Coordinate with air traffic control, utility clients, and local authorities as required for airspace access
- Capture, manage, and submit high-quality aerial inspection data, imagery, and reports
- Submit accurate and timely expense reports for all project-related expenditures
- Perform weekly inventory surveys of all UAS equipment, tools, batteries, and field materials
- Maintain all UAS equipment, ground support tools, and company vehicles in proper working condition
- Achieve expected safety, quality, and production goals on every project
- Represent Nexus Utility Services professionally to clients, utilities, and the communities in which you operate
Safety and Airspace
- Operate all UAS equipment with strict adherence to FAA Part 107 regulations and all applicable airspace rules
- Obtain and maintain all required airspace authorizations including LAANC, waivers, and COAs prior to any flight operation
- Conduct thorough pre-flight risk assessments identifying hazards including power lines, RF interference, terrain, and proximity to people
- Never fly beyond visual line of sight without proper waiver authorization
- Maintain safe distances from energized infrastructure, structures, and personnel at all times
- Brief your crew on all flight area hazards and emergency procedures before every operation
- Set the standard — your crew watches how you operate; conduct yourself and your flights accordingly at all times
Qualifications
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate required before start date
- Experience operating UAS in any professional or commercial environment — utility experience a plus but not required
- Must be at least 25 years of age
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous supervisory or crew leadership experience preferred — we will develop the right candidate
- Strong working knowledge of FAA airspace classifications, LAANC authorization, and NAS regulations
- General GIS proficiency — familiarity with platforms such as ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar tools is a plus
- Must be able to travel statewide and out of state as required
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience flying fixed-wing or multi-rotor UAS platforms in electric transmission or distribution environments
- Familiarity with thermal imaging, LiDAR, or photogrammetry payloads used in utility inspection
- Experience using drone data management platforms such as DroneDeploy, Pix4D, or AutoCAD
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Prior military aviation, UAV operations, or ISR experience — your skills transfer here
