Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated, reliable, and hands-on individual to join our team as a Drone Utility Pilot in Training. This is a growth-oriented position designed to develop the next generation of utility drone pilots.
This role will start in a support capacity, including driving, logistics, and field assistance, while working directly alongside a senior pilot. Over time, the candidate will be trained in drone operations, utility inspection workflows, and data collection techniques, with the goal of becoming a certified utility drone pilot.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Support & Logistics (50%)
- Operate company vehicles to transport crews, equipment, and materials to job sites
- Assist with field setup, site access, and daily operational logistics
- Support senior pilot with equipment handling, battery management, and safety setup
- Maintain vehicles, tools, and field equipment in clean and operational condition
- Navigate remote and rural job sites across varying terrain
- Ability to travel up to three weeks at a time
Drone Operations Training & Field Data Collection (50%)
- Train under senior pilot to learn UAV operations for utility inspections and mapping
- Assist in drone flight planning, mission execution, and airspace awareness
- Support collection of aerial imagery, LiDAR, and inspection data
- Learn utility asset inspection standards (NESC-based workflows)
- Assist with basic data organization and field documentation
- Progress toward independent drone operation and FAA Part 107 certification (if not already obtained)
Qualifications:
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn in a hands-on environment
- Interest in drones, aviation, utilities, or geospatial technology
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical field work
- Comfortable with travel and overnight stays as needed
- FAA Part 107 license (preferred but not required—training supported)
